Planning Your Painting Projects For 2017

Do you look forward to the start of January? For many a new year means a time for reflection and resolutions for the months ahead. We might not be able to help you with your fitness goals, but we think this is a great opportunity to take stock of your home and make some goals for it in 2017.

Developing Your 2017 Home Resolutions

How many times have you made a mental note to update or fix something in your home only to later forget? You get busy and the task is forgotten as more immediate concerns push it from your mind. One of the best ways to prevent this from happening is by keeping a master list for your home of all the projects and regular maintenance it needs.

To start your master list begin by performing an inspection of your property. Start outside your home and make notes about what you see that needs attention. Is your walkway or siding look a little dingy? Maybe the paint on your front door is peeling? Write each issues down as you spot it. When you’ve finished performing your exterior inspection move inside and repeat the process, starting at your entryway and working your way through every room of your home. Some items you might want to pay attention to are:

  • Scuffed up baseboards or walls in high-traffic areas
  • Dark and dingy looking closets
  • Outdated bathroom or kitchen cabinetry that could benefit from a coat of paint
  • Rooms with colors that feel uninspiring
  • Damaged walls

When you’ve completed your inspection your list might be long. Don’t let that intimidate you! There might very well be more there than you can realistically tackle in a year. The goal of the list is to have one place where you keep track of projects instead of relying on sticky notes or trying to remember it all. Keep your list on your refrigerator or somewhere it will be easy to find when you need to add an item.

Prioritizing Home Projects

Look over your list and pick out a few projects that will be your priorities in 2017. See if there are any projects you can combine. For example, if you have a few rooms that could use a fresh coat of paint, you might be able to get a better price by having them all done at once. Thinking ahead can save you time, money, and allow you to keep an eye out for any special deals that may pop up in the months ahead.

If you live in the Egg Harbor Township, NJ area and want help planning your painting projects in the new year, we would be happy to work with you!
