Fun with Interior Paint Colors: Choosing Just the Right Look

Sometimes interior paintinginvolves multiple rooms and drastic color transformations. No doubt about it. But sometimes interior painting is about just making a subtle, localized shift to add a whole new level of personality and style.

Let’s take a look at a couple projects we just finished that are great examples of making a big impact in a small amount of space, and then we’ll pass along a few quick tips.

Bathroom repaint: subtle change but huge impact

Not a huge leap, but what a difference! The deeper wall color offers a nice, sophisticated, finished look, especially paired with the white baseboards and decorations.

Painting an accent wall for the win!

While this isn’t exactly subtle, it IS an awesome example of how a well-chosen accent wall can add visual interest to a space. As you can see, we carefully prepped this wall to ensure that there were clean lines and perfect coverage!

Speaking of accent walls… How can you add visual interest with just fresh interior paint?

Accent walls are a timeless way to ramp up your room’s style, but you have to go into the process carefully. The right color, the right placement… There are a lot of options to consider.

  1. Because your accent wall is going to draw attention, carefully choose which elements you’re highlighting. A wide open, symmetrical wall is best.
  2. We recommended using the wall you face most often for your accent - something to keep in mind the next time you’re considering all the potential within the room.
  3. Make sure there’s nothing obscuring the view. For example, if your accent wall has a window, you don’t want to hide that gorgeous new color behind large drapes.
  4. Go bold with your color, like this awesome red/white combo! It can feel a little scary, but it’s worth it. It should grab attention!

A lot of homeowners incorporate wood elements into their accent walls as well, painting the surface a deep, often darker color, then laying trim wood over the top in strategic lines and patterns. The results can be really stunning, layering colors and textures.
